So Many October Events, So Little Time!

Upcoming Events for River City Brewing in October

October 8th: The Vanessa Behan Crisis Nursery Fundraiser

Come enjoy tastings from local breweries and pizza while supporting an incredible local charity: the Vanessa Behan Crisis Nursery! The Department of Children and Family Services is hosting an event at The Lincoln Center October 8 from 6-9 PM. The event includes a silent auction for ski tickets, movie tickets, restaurant gift cards and more. Entrance is $35, and all proceeds go to Vanessa Behan Crisis Nursery.

October 9th: Spokane Bike Talk Happy Hour

Come for the Happy Hour, stay for the Bike Talk! It’s a chance to connect and an excuse to get together and talk bikes at the local and state level.

Come connect with your statewide bike organizations Sunday, Oct. 9 with Barb Chamberlain (Chief Strategic Officer); Tarrell Kullaway (Senior Director of Membership & Development), and Ed Ewing (Director of the Major Taylor Project).

You’ll get a brief overview of the merger of Washington Bikes and Cascade Bicycle Club and how both now work statewide with new roles. Learn a bit about Cascade's statewide work in bike education, school-based youth programming, and the Major Taylor Project and how the role of endorsing political candidates moved from Cascade to WA Bikes.

Local bike leaders will share updates on projects and programs. We’ll celebrate the wins (like state funding that extended the Centennial Trail) and talk about what’s needed to grow and improve bicycling for all.

Light snacks and a pitcher or two of social beverages provided by Washington Bikes and Cascade Bicycle Club with generous assistance from Gage and crew. Email barb@cascade.org to let us know you’re coming and help us plan refreshments. Many thanks to River City Brewing Owner Gage Stromberg for his support of the event!

October 15th: Evogreen East Eastoberfest Enduro Race

Eastoberfest is an enduro race at Beacon Hill in Spokane Washington, put on by Evergreen East. Racers will start at Camp Sekani and go to the towers, it will utilize most of the hill and consist of four stages, about 3,000 ft of climbing and will showcase the great variety of trails on Beacon.

Not the usual race courses at Beacon. There will be a mix of technical trails and flowing single track and a stage with jumps hit-able by all riders.

Like all enduro races, the stages will be revealed a few days before the race.

Registration Fees:

$45 members
$55 non-members (become a member today)

The funds from the race will go directly back to Evergreen East to support trail building and maintenance.

2016 RESTAURANT WARS IN
KENDALL YARDS

Spokane has long needed an event to highlight the amazing restaurants and food products sold in the Inland Northwest. Thousands dine-out daily and default to corporate chain pizza or gas station hot dogs.  We've always felt it's not because they truly enjoy these foods... it's because they plainly aren't aware of the amazing culinary choices in our community.

Restaurant Wars aims to put the best of the best in one
place for one night. The event is FREE to attend and offers
affordable priced braclets so everyone can try small plates
from 8 DIFFERENT top local restaurants. Stay for the live
music, chef demos, beer garden and farmers market atmosphere.

Come enjoy and eat from 4:00 to 8:00pm in Kendall Yards this Saturday, September 10th!

Tuesday, September 6, 2016

Join us here at River City Brewing this Wednesday for a Community Pint Night benefiting the Friends of the Centennial Trail!

$1 from each pint sold on Wednesday, September 7th will go directly to the Centennial Trail. Arrive thirsty and leave happy knowing that you’ve contributed to sustaining the most popular trail in Eastern Washington.

The King is Dead, Long Live the King!

THE KING IS DEAD,
LONG LIVE THE KING!

It is with a heavy heart that the man who has been our head brewer for the last 3 years has decided to leave the brewing industry to pursue new life goals. We're talking about the Man, the Myth, the Legend... Moose Sanders. We invite you to join us on Wednesday for some $2 pints to celebrate the time we've had with Moose, and to wish him the best of luck on his journey moving forward!

At the same time, we would also like to congratulate Moose's coworker of the last 2 years into his new role as River City Brewing's Head Brewer. Todd Grove, you have some big shoes to fill but we know that you are more than capable, and we're excited to see what the future brings us with you behind the tanks!

Cheers!

Ode to a Bike Ride

The ride started off like any other, Paul gliding up and taking the lead, "Troika it is, but to correct you, my friend, Seven Hills is my favorite to point my steed."

Up Thorpe and then Four Lakes, the wind pushed back as hard as the group pushed fore; Two abreast, eight riders in sync, waiting for the turn where the tailwind would  help us soar.

But first an echelon of death, each hanging on wondering where our bodies would finally come to rest. Paul's pull, inspired by the cemetery, nearly killed us but finally we had all passed the test.

Relief, finally with the wind behind, but alas it became high-speed rollers one after another. Pressed to the limits, we each rode on, trading leads and tapping reserves, no one wanting to lose the tether.

Finally, into the park and the end was near. A few more small hills and finally relief, but for one the price was simply too dear. The man with a hammer came to collect his due, and suddenly for one the road seem to be covered with glue.

Slower and laboring through the final paces, three comrades carried him as best they could. Pedals moving slower, head hanging down, though moving forward it didn't looking good.

But finally Canon Coffee was in sight. The promise of an affagoto was the only thing to make it seem right. 50-some miles and a frightening pace, eight riders finally finished and only one losing face.

To ride, to climb, to pedal with heart, these are the things that set the cyclist apart. To do so with friends is certainly a privilege, one to enjoy as long as it lasts. For one day we will each finally hang up our cleats and all of this will be in our collective past; but for now let's rest, recover and put aside the woe, for soon it will be time for us to go.

Have you tried our Gose-Way?

What's new with River City Brewing

Have you tried the most recent limited release from River City Brewing? Introducing Gose-Way!

Gose (pronounced Goh-za) beers started in 16th century Germany. They are brewed with at least 50% wheat and are characterized by salty, mineral flavors. In America, Goses are often paired with other fruit or sweeter flavors. At River City Brewing, we make "super" beers so we decided that super berries were our path to a new, refreshing gose. With the addition of cranberry, acai berry and orange we were on the path. But in America, we don't stop at making things a little bit super, we want them super super. So along with the normal salt addition to a gose (we used Pink Himalayan Salt), we added three electrolytes (sodium, magnesium, potassium) commonly found in recovery and sports drinks. Hence, we created a super powerful, super wonderful, super refreshing gose. So will Gose-Away make you super? We can't say that. Will Gose-Away make your hangover go-away? Of course we can't say that. But will it? Really, we shouldn't say that. Just drink it and see what happens to you.

Cheers! #DrinkLocal #Spokane #CraftBeer #GoseWay

Introducing our Bloomsday Blonde!

For 40 years, spring in Spokane has meant it was time for the Lilac Bloomsday Run. Starting with 1,200 runners in 1977 and including nearly 50,000 runners, walkers and wheelchairs every year for the last 20 years, it is hard to overestimate the impact Bloomsday has had on our community. From the runners and walkers, to volunteers, to supporters of all kinds, it has left a lasting positive impact. To celebrate the 40th running, River City Brewing is proud to have the opportunity to produce “Bloomsday Blonde,” a light American style blonde ale, perfect for post-run relaxing or just raising a pint for everyone involved in this great event.

Look for bars and restaurants and hotels throughout our area that are pouring Bloomsday Blonde this month, and raise a pint with us celebrate the 40th running of Bloomsday in our amazing city!

Cheers!
