With Friends Like These . . . You Would Have Plenty of Beer

This is going on all over the internets, but D.D. was the one that poked my nose in it and made me watch it.  Enjoy.

This shit is too, too good to pass up

I did Music Saturday for a bit.  Then I stopped.  But a few people said, "Hey, you were shining a beacon on deserving music, spreading sunshine and making my Saturday a better place.  Could you do more Saturday music?"  So I say, "Sure, Mom. Anything for you."

And so to ease us back in, here is what is without question the best video created in this century and potentially any other.  This video is from a singularly great band sporting a new sound.  Gone is the hurdy-gurdy and in comes a Daft Punk-esque disco sound.  Throw in giant papier mache representational heads (please note I used the french spelling to be completely accurate), include the best suit to appear in a video since David Byrne's big suit, add babies being thrown from the back of a transport truck (no, not real babies), toss out all manner of deeply introspective symbolism casting a sparkly light on the dichotomy between our inner and outer selves, and mix it together with a melange of mysticism (I really just wanted to get "melange" into that sentence) and you have this totally wonderful video with which I am deeply in love.

Without further ado, please enjoy - Arcade Fire - Reflektor.

This weekend, two fun events that beg your attention.  First up, Dirty Martinis for Clean Water on Friday night.  Benefiting the Spokane Riverkeeper (the guys who fight the good fight to keep our Spokane River and watershed clean and safe), they will be serving up a special edition of Riverkeeper Red - a hoppier, less malty version of our year-round River City Red - and music will be provided by the incredible, wonderful Terrible Buttons.  Details:

And, after you sober up from that much fun on Friday night, here is a plan for Saturday night.  Head up or over or down to the Rocket Market (top of High Drive) for a benefit supporting trail building and maintenance for mountain bike trails, particularly those on Mt. Spokane.  Here are the details on that dillio:

So get off the damn couch and go drink good beer for a good cause.  Really.

Stairway to Heaven

Not everyone loves this song.  I understand that.  Some people just don't have good sense; it happens.  But if you do love this song, you will really love this cover.  Sincerely, you will.

Riverkeeper Red

Water is not only the foundation of life, it is the foundation of beer, so teaming up with the Spokane Riverkeeper to create a special edition of Riverkeeper Red was an opportunity we couldn’t pass up.

The Spokane Riverkeeper is a non-profit group dedicated to protecting and restoring the health of the Spokane River Watershed.  To honor their work, we have taken our “Red” in a whole new direction.  Using Nugget and Liberty hops from the Yakima Valley, we have created a hoppy version of our year-round River City Red. The Carapils and Special Roast malts give it a copper color and a wee bit of malt flavor, but they take a backseat to the crisp hop tones River City Brewing will be making a donation to the Spokane Riverkeeper for each keg of Riverkeeper Red sold.

Our distributor, Click Distributing, has agreed to sell the kegs at a reduced price to encourage bars, restaurants and retailers to make a donation of $25 (or more) for each keg they pour and we have materials available to share with patrons to learn about the Spokane Riverkeeper, their work and this special edition beer.

Riverkeeper Red will be rolling out for the very first time at Zola’s tonight, Thursday, September 5, at an event from 6 – 8 pm.  We will also be doing an event with the Spokane Riverkeeper at Pints Alehouse on Wednesday, September 18, 6 – 8 pm and looking for some other opportunities to highlight this great organization and the beer honoring their work.  We are also pleased to be pouring it at the Annual Dirty Martinis for Clean Water fundraiser on September 13, 6 – 10 pm at Chateau Rive.
